BE PART OF OUR VOCALIGHTS CHOIR
It’s true – joining a choir is good for the soul. And Vocalights Choir is always on the lookout for new members who can bring their unique sound and fresh energy to the choir. If you are looking for a new challenge, are a passionate singer, and think you have what it takes, we'd love to hear from you!
Where and When Do We Meet?
Every Thursday evening of school term time, at 7.30 - 9.30pm at Aylsham Parish Church.
What Can I Expect from a Session?
Once you arrive, you'll meet one of our friendly team on the front desk who will take your email address so we can pop you on the mailing list if you decide to come again, and they will also provide you with sheet music and lyrics for the session.
You'll then join a section where you feel most comfortable; either Soprano (high voiced female), Alto (low voiced female), Tenor (high voiced male) or Bass (low voiced male). We normally spend the first hour working on a song or two from our songbooks which you can borrow (if it's your first go) or buy so you get to take it home and practice!
Half way through, we break for a cuppa and a chat and return back shortly after to continue with the session. We normally like to practice 2-3 songs in a session, this way it keeps the sessions fresh and interesting. We finish at 9.30pm, when you can be on your way, hopefully feeling refreshed, relaxed and ready for bed! Singing really does work wonders for the soul!
How Much Does it Cost?
Your first session is free, and it's £6 on each visit thereafter. There is no commitment or advanced payment necessary, just pay on the door when you arrive and enjoy a couple of hours of singing! This way, you can come along to the sessions you can make, but you aren't committed to every week; if you can't make it, no worries! We do encourage a commitment to choir as there can be some challenging parts to learn, and weekly singing is a good routine to get into, but we don't expect everyone to be able to make it every week, and understand people have busy and variable schedules!
Where Can I Park?
The church has a small car parking area on the grounds near the main door, but if this is full, most choir members park in Aylsham town centre, as the church is just off the market square. There is no charge for parking here.
What About Performances?
Twice a year we have exciting concerts held at Aylsham Church - a Christmas Concert and a Summer Concert. These are our two big performances during the year and all singers are invited to sing at them (although it's not compulsory to do so if you would prefer not too, we would love all to have a go!). All the music we cover in the regular sessions is in preparation for these concerts throughout the year. Alongside this, we are often invited to sing at local events, especially over the summer months, and we're a big fan of carolling over Christmas too!
Sound good? Then head to our contact page - we look forward to hearing from you and hopefully singing with you soon!
